Happy National Beer Day! GasBuddy Users Love Craft Beer, Purchasing Beer At Convenience Stores

GasBuddy Blog -- It’s that time of year again. A time when people all over the U.S. can come together in harmony to celebrate something so sacred and meaningful to American life and culture that it renders meaningless whatever issues might typically divide us.

Yes, tomorrow is National Beer Day.

Celebrated since 2009, National Beer Day has become a time when all Americans can raise a glass to the sudsy treat known as beer. Beer is one of the world’s oldest prepared beverages, dating possibly as far back as 9500 BC, and it is recorded in the written history of ancient Iraq and ancient Egypt. National Beer Day is tied closely to when President Franklin Roosevelt took the first step toward ending Prohibition in the U.S. by signing the Cullen-Harrison Act, which allowed for sales of low-alcohol beer and...

the "pay it forward" points on the initial splash screen are hogwash. And the # of ppl having seen them? Even more ridiculous.

the "hold your horses" on the fill up seems to be the only message here. If one followed that, one would run the tank empty before there's a change.

GB still has not taken away the excess points as promised and continues to favor one OS over another:

reported #'s are inflated by 10-25%, depending on day (range of points?). Can't imagine how the "seen by" is inflated. I'd say 75% from what I've seen so far.

how can otherwise 24 reported prices turn into 128 reported and seen by 812 ppl in one day in an area that has fewer than 125k ppl total (and reported prices on a road that is taken by about 1500 people on a weekend)?

Seems the newest app version is trying to discourage even more reporting / checking on prices. Way to go, GB. You're outdoing yourself with each successive app version!

still no screen rotation option (i.e. select "preferred = no screen rotation in settings but allow for all other programs to rotate screen")! Currently, to avoid screen rotation, user must select screen rotation block for all apps. Why not stop putting stupid little gimmicks into the app and go back to your roots and make the app useful for price reporting?

with all the money spent on gimmicks and silly stuff that's useless, how about making the log-in portion of the site into an https:// site thus, securing the members' information rather than easily exposing it any and all?

Same reason why the excessive points awarded have never been taken away:

Points Leaders 1st half 2017
1 Buddy2264 Tampa, Florida 2,446,525
2 JetManCT Hartford, Connecticut 2,279,625
3 12766 New York 2,211,475
4 JayL53 Macon, Georgia 2,205,025
5 Lucky77713 Lansing, Michigan 2,105,300
6 bug27 Kentucky 2,096,025
7 Slushbox London, Ontario 2,059,650
8 cowboy1ttu Lubbock, Texas 2,011,500
9 jbruggem South Dakota 1,873,325
10 mrflow Orange County, California 1,847,100

....Even with the extra 850-900k points, that's more than could be earned "legitimately."

I bet BG will not do a survey / poll next week (or soon), that is similar to today's in that it asks for what OS and then create one that shows the prevalence of one device and OS over another.

bring back the options page in the app, esp. the screen rotation lock and the auto open to stations. BUT PLEASE test the app thoroughly before posting the new version.

lots of gimmicks in the app = lots of data being wasted for nothing. Time to start looking for other services that focus on gas prices, not entertainment.

oh yea, silly me! I forgot that GB is no longer in the business of informing consumers about gas prices and financing itself with some ads, but it's in the business of pushing ads to those silly folks who think there's some value in the gas prices reported on the site.

Thanks for something NOT gas or oil related. That nonsense gets real old, real quick. I want cheap gas prices, but I don't want to read boring articles about it.

When was this survey taken? I was never asked!

Gas stations sell crap like Keystone and Corona. You might as well be drinking dirty water.

I have never seen any convenience store that sold craft beer. I have to look for a microbrewery, or specialty store.
