I think the best (and perhaps only) merit of the section is to inform and educate those who are looking for a "boycott".
Many people, especially new members who have signed up because they are frustrated by rising prices, are looking for a way to strike back. They may have received an email or heard boycott ideas from a friend. Then they look for how to get involved.
What we can do with this section is to explain how worldwide commodity prices are set, and how little money per gallon everyone in the supply chain makes (well, except for governments, who make a ton of money on oil).
After they get a clearer picture, I at least try and direct that energy and enthusiasm into lowering their personal energy consumption. Things like programmable thermostats and hot water pipe insulation aren't sexy, but they cut your bills -and after all, isn't that the motivation behind the "boycott" calls in the first place?

Better they participate in the actually conserving their usage of gas and diesel if they want to make a difference. Just my opinion, however.
