Ethanol has a malodorous reputation because it damages small engines that were not manufactured recently. As to motor vehicles, they have been compatible with ethanol for decades.

Ethanol, being an oxygenate, reduces carbon monoxide production (at least in the laboratory).

Ethanol, being an oxygenate, has lower energy levels than straight hydrocarbons. But in areas that have both ethanol-free and ethanol-containing fuel, the ethanol-free fuel is about $0.20/gallon more expensive.

California specification pump gasoline contains at least 5.7% ethanol.

First of all you need to spell it right. Ethanol is just an alcohol additive to make gasoline go farther. Made from corn.
